Our work in Kiev was with pastor Vladimir from Svyatoshina Church for one week of computer classes. We also partnered with Roman and Misha from Bible Mission, Kiev. Project leader Jim worked with Sue from eDot, our GEM ministry partners that are focusing on Ukraine to use computer technology to train pastors, disciple believers and reach out to the community. Sue took main leadership responsibilites and Jim was able to spend more time with the students. We used Open Ofiice products for our classes as it is freeware in a land of much Software pirating.
Our Morning Class
We had a great time teaching the students, building relationships and sharing our faith. My favorite student was Alexiy. He was a 72 year-old who had never used a computer before... The first few days he was doing the two-handed mouse action...
We averaged over 30 students between our two computer classes each day. They heard the Gospel message clearly presented by Mathew, the team leader from Cedarbrook Church in Maryland. (Cedarbrook is Sue's home church)
We did have some time to walk around in historic Kiev and see some of the markets and beautiful architecture.
Sofia Orthodox Cathedral
Several students had great questions about the messages and at least one is so very close to becoming a believer! Pray that the local church can continue to use the computer lab as a means of outreach and discipling.
