“Words are not enough to thank you for what your team has done for us.” These are the words of Pastor Ion Vasile, our Romanian co-worker who helped us organize our second annual European Pastors Conference in Sinaia, Romania. Sinaia is a town in the Transylvanian Alps about ninety minutes North of Bucharest. The name is actually derived from biblical Mt Sinai and the town received this name because of an ancient Orthodox monastery located there by that name. Though coincidental, we thought it appropriate as we truly wished the pastors and wives attending conference to meet God at Sinaia … and they did.
All together there were 40 pastors and wives in attendance, including 3 Moldovan couples. Thanks to gifts from North American Believers, these pastoral couples were able to stay in a moderately priced hotel during the conference, making it a very special get-away for them. Pastor Silviu told me that he is pastor of two churches and he never has time for a day-off. At one of our meal times, Silviu and his wife, Fabiola, thanked me for this rare opportunity and for the edifying conference sessions.
Our conference theme was “Contending for the Faith and the Family.” We had different four speakers and covered such subjects as Teaching the Truth, Marriage and Family, Christian Living and Worship. Pastor Ion told us at the end that these areas were very important and that we did an excellent job of treating these vital topics.
Pastor Anghel and his wife, Florina, oversee several churches in the very southern most part of Romania, near the Bulgarian border. This is the poorest part of Romania economically, with many Gypsies, with also many satanic influences. They even have a mission point across the border in Bulgaria. They thanked us over and over again for the conference. Anghel and Florina felt the teaching was extremely helpful, particularly the teaching on family.
Our Moldovan pastoral couples also loved the conference. Pastor Mihai is also dean of a Bible school in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, and is working on his doctorate in Bucharest. His wife Lidia thanked us, saying that she rarely sees her husband and that this conference was a wonderful time to be with him. Pastor Mihai asked me to bring a Pastors Conference team to Moldova next year.
