Stories from the Field...

The TEFL team ministered at Grosvenor Road Baptist Church in Dublin, Ireland to over 40 international students. Students came from countries like Iran, Poland, Brazil, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Macao, with 21 graduating students. Not only were we able to teach a quality English program, but we were able to share the good news of Jesus Christ, the price He paid for our redemption and theirs, and to minister to them in prayer and friendship as well.

Our teachers were Debbie, Carol & Tony in level 1; Henry, Ilona & Debbie in level 2; and Gloria, Hilda, Iby & Tara in level 3 which was the largest class, with Lynda helping Ann from GEM administer and supervise the team. The majority of the team was from Calvary Baptist & Fellowship Baptist in Oshawa & Cobourg, Ontario, Canada respectively.

Each day one of the teachers had an opportunity to share his/her testimony with the class during our ‘group time'. We sang songs, cited scripture learned during the reading lessons which are taken from the book of John, performed a skit based on the reading lesson as well. Immediately following our group time, the construction team joined the students & teachers for a time of fellowship and sharing as well as coffee and tea. Remember, this is Ireland, so tea is always on the menu.

Ana is a recent widow from Romania whose property was taken from her by her late husband's family. She consequently moved to Ireland, leaving 2 daughters behind. The 1st day of class Ana approached her teachers (level 3) telling them of her plight in addition to her sleepless nights for months and pain in her left knee. She had been to doctors with little success. The teachers & Ann prayed for her after class.

The next morning Ana came to class rejoicing that she had slept all night for the 1st time in ages and that the pain in her knee was gone. She attended church with us the next Sunday & wants to give glory to the Lord. She called her daughters in Romania to proclaim what the Lord had done for her.

It was easy to empathize with these students who were so far from home, living in another country and experiencing another culture. It was easy to identify with them, their struggles, and homesickness. But it was even easier to love them, see their hunger for God's word, His music, to worship with the team on the 2nd Sunday we were there.

Linda from Macao also comes to church now, as well as Mehdi from Iran and Felipe & Michelle from Brazil. Arash & Davood are Iranian Christians who attended our classes and were testimonies to other students. Davood gave his personal testimony so that they could see the salvation is for everyone. Please continue to pray for them.
