Serving near Sherwood Forest

Gallivanting through Sherwood Forest, the loyal band of companions gazed vigilantly as the tower of Nottingham castle appeared over the crest of the hill. No, this isn't Robin Hood and his benevolent band of outlaws, but a group of 12 Canadians that formed our recent team, lead by EuroTeam supervisor, Sir Kim Garrity. This team ventured across the Atlantic to renovate Bawtry Hall, a Christian retreat center, located in central England not too far from the legendary Sherwood Forest and Nottingham Castle.

The Canadians renovated Bawtry Hall, a beautiful, historic 18 th century Georgian manor house, which had served as a command center for the Royal Air Force during and after the WWII. Today Bawtry Hall offers respite and spiritual blessing to many Christians who come there for a retreat.

Our team mainly worked on painting and wall-papering the main entry and stairway. The first thing a person sees when he walks in the front door is important, because it creates a good first impression for visitors. Other work that our team did included some cleaning and sanding of wood floors.

In addition to enjoying the Sherwood Forest and Nottingham Castle, other points of interest in this region are: the birth place of many of the pilgrim founding fathers of America; also the birth place of Charles and John Wesley.

The greatest compliment the team received while working a Bawtry Hall came from a skeptical local maintenance man. He was afraid he was going to have to spend a month “repairing” our volunteer work. He was very pleasantly surprised on the last day to see that the quality of our team's work had well surpassed his expectations.

EuroTeam is grateful to all at Bawtry Hall for the wonderful time they provided while we served them.
